Milton St John's Church of England Primary School

  1. About Us

Our School

Milton St John’s is a small and friendly primary school close to the centre of Mossley, located approximately ten miles east of Manchester. The school was built in 1913 and continues to provide pleasant surroundings, combined with a friendly and caring atmosphere.

The school is located in a large catchment area, which covers most of Mossley. The village, banks, train station and library are all in easy walking distance. We are also close to the Tame Valley River and Huddersfield Canal. The school is in a very fortunate location to be able to utilise these facilities easily.

We are a Controlled Church of England school, which has strong ties with St John’s Church and provides education for children from the age of 4 to 11. The school also has its own Nursery, for children from the age of 3.

All the classes are based in traditional style classrooms which are equipped with an interactive whiteboard, computer and listening/audio aids. We have a fully furnished ICT suite and library resource area. Our well stocked library is available for reference work in school and there is a lending section where children from Year 2 upwards can choose books each week to take home.

There is playground equipment in the playground, a playing field and a concrete pitch on site. These are very popular for football and sporting events throughout the year. We are also continually developing our Forest School area on the field too.

The school is committed to recycling which is organised and run by the Eco Committee. Also, we encourage the children to eat healthy food and snacks and were awarded the bronze 'Food4Life School Award' in 2017.

We also proudly achieved 'The Rights Respecting Schools Bronze and Silver Awards'. More information about this award can be found under the 'children' section of the website.
